Polling Day Run – Adventure Run in the East

Taz blogged:

Today is one of the most imporatnt day in Singapore; POLLING DAY…..decided to join a few of the guys for polling run from pasir ris park along tampines park connector to bedok reservoir and siglap park connector to reach east coast park tennis centre, followed by running along east coast park to bayshore underpass out to upper east coast road and end at bedok corner. The estimated distance covered was 18km.

I reached paris ris park at 6.50am…no one was there…went to the loo and came out to see TLR running around the park…managed to phone him to meet me back at the park fitness station. Ah Bee arrived shortly after. Tekko later arrived with his running master, aichai and benruth. So here we are early in the morning gathered for a wonderful day run. We ran along tampines park connector but the sky looks very very glooming towards out target.

The MR25 20km Progressive Run

The Dreamrunner blogged:

I had just 2 relatively short runs this week, and I was looking forward to this 20km run organized by the MR25, in preparation of its runners for the year end Standard Chartered Marathon. I recalled having done this 20km progressive run last year, had to walk a bit on some of the slopes at the Golf Course, and returned with a reasonable time of 1hr58min. I am just looking to do a sub-2hr run this time, and better my 2005 timing.

I watched the elections results till 2am before waking up at 5:45am for the run. I felt ok as I downed a bowl of cereal and a banana to provide fuel for this would-be hard run. DO, Ultraman, Alvo, Bug and myself were at the starting line in MacRitchie lower carpark toilets by 6:45am. Registered for the race and got my bib no. 38…hmm nice no. The weather was cool, after some rains in the night. Some of the expected runners like Lai Chee, Brokie, bbmon, TLR did not turn up as they had prior appointments. Gentle arrived about 5min to race start. Zhiwei, a new SgRunner joined us for this run too. Saw the usual MR25 runners all raring to start. In a rush, I forgot to bring my watch and was quite apprehensive about not being able to track my timing. I decided then to track familiar runners for a sense of the pace. At the whistle, all the runners headed in the direction of the Northern Route. The pace was ok initially as there were some blockages by walkers. Once into the trails, the pace picked up and a large group ran forward. I was keeping a steady pace, not too fast, but I could still feel that it was quite hard. After getting warmed up, I increased pace a little, and soon saw DO, Ultra in front. As we exited from the Northern Route, we had taken 19min…wow, that was fast…normally I would come out from there in 22min…haha.

Durian Session

Philip blogged:

Saturday night out to Geylang for a durian feast with the sgrunners. The target this time was the lower stretch of Geylang towards the Aljunid area. Appetisers at the first 3 stalls with 3 for $20 D24 durians, beautiful finale with 4 for $96 durians: 2 Elvis and 2 Red-prawn. Elvis, especially, was excellent. Thick, firm and bitter-sweet with a familiar beer-like flavour. Yup, when I first bite into it, I was like “Huh? Carlsberg beer”. Simply beautiful and sinful to the max. Worth the indulgence and the money spent despite being really pricey. I mean, 4 durians for $96. You could have a meal of 2 large claypot crab bee hoon with that and still have $6 left for a few cans of beer.

The journey continued down to Katong where we were suppose to have a karaoke session only to have the entire lounge fully reserved. Bo bian, we went over for Katong Laksa instead to make up for last week’s incident. Nothing but the original Marine Parade Katong Laksa. Weird name right? Well, many might not know this but the original true blue Katong Laksa was called Marine Parade Laksa until the uncle settled down in Katong. When I was a kid, whenever we went down to Katong to makan (before the dawn of the Laksa Wars), mummy always reminded me that the “real” Katong Laksa belongs to the stall owned by the uncle and that the rest were merely lousy duplicates. Fast-forward 15 years, looking at the aftermath of the Laksa War, power is now split evenly between Nancy and Marine Parade Laksa. On the other hand, the chicken rice war ended not too long ago with 5 Star being the clear winner while Boon Tong Kee on the verge of closing down anytime. There’s a misconception that when it comes to makan at Katong, its always 5 Star Chicken rice or the Laksa but the truth is, this is merely a facade. The true blue Katong Makan experts would know that the list of Katong makan is really much longer than this.
