Everest Marathon – 2007 on Tuesday
The Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon-2007 is set to be organised on Tuesday from the 5356m Everest Base Camp in Solukhumbu.

Altogether 130 runners from 14 countries are participating in the Marathon, which covers a distance of 42.195 kms, passing through the Everest Base Camp crisscrossing village trails to the Sherpa town of Namche (3446m). Among the participants, 26 are from Netherlands, six from the USA, five from the United Kingdom, three each from Japan and Germany, two each from Switzerland, Ireland and France and one each from Australia, Austria, Finland, Chez Republic and Thailand. Legs and Paddles were organized for the past number of years which made it one of the longest lasting races in Singapore. It was organized every year without fail by NUS Canoeing Club Students.
Started off in Kallang River, where it shifted to Chinese Garden last year. This year, it shifted again at the heart of the city area, near the Singapore’s favourite landmark, Merlion. It consist of two disciplines, kayaking and running. Only this year, they added a running only race called the Brooks Life Run. Continue Reading

The 13th edition of Maratona della Città di Roma was flagged off by Rome’s mayor Walter Veltroni at 9am on Sunday 18 March. At the end of the race, the following records were established:
1. Record number of finishers in an Italian marathon 12,078 finishers, including 51 disabled (and more than 45,000 were at the start of the Stracittadina 4 km Fun Run).
2. Women’s course record (Souad Ait Salem 2:25.08).
3. Men’s handbike record (Roland Ruepp 1:21.26).
4. Women’s handbike record (Monique Van der Vorst 1:24.49).
5. Men’s paraplegic Weelchair record (Kurt Fearnley 1:35.28).
6. Men’s 2007 world record (Chelimo Kemboi 2:09.36).
7. Blind world record (Andrea Cionna 2:31.59).
8. Italian retro-running record (Claudio Conti 5:50.48).

It was the one and only Duathlon race in Singapore! Running 10 km, followed by Cycling 40 km and lastly, running another 5 km. I am not sure of when was the first duathlon in Singapore. I participated the New Balance Duathlon 2005, which was held at Marina Bay. Last year, 2006, was held at East Coast Park. This year, was held in the City, Raffles Place area. Continue Reading

Do you ever wonder why some runners are just born to sprint while some are born to endure? I remember joining a biathlon race in a relay category at Farrer Park. I managed to lap a famous Singapore sprinter in a 4.5 km run. Nothing to be proud of. Wait till he asked me for a duel in a 100 meter sprint.

What I am trying to say, sprinters are just born to sprint and long distance runners are just meant to run far. If you really look into microscopic view of a muscle, you can tell the difference. There are two main types of muscle cells, or fibers in the human body. Continue Reading
