Carbo Loading for Marathon?

Introduction

Muscle glycogen provides a key fuel for training and racing a marathon. The term “hitting the wall” is really referring to the overwhelming fatigue that an athlete experiences at a later part of an event when muscle glycogen stores are depleted. Hence, carbohydrate (CHO) loading can enhance endurance/marathon performance by allowing the competitor to run at their optimal pace for a longer period before fatiguing. Continue Reading

Races Review: Kedah 50km vs Vermont 50km

It’s probably a dream for any runner of any ability to “upgrade” to a more challenging goal after attempting the marathon. And the next easier target to consider would the increasingly popular 50km events. Let’s find out from our fellow ladies SGRunners fennel and Ripley, on what it was like running a 50km race in a tropical climate in Malaysia and in a 4-season climate during the cooler months in United States. Be warned though! It could be highly infectious and exciting when you started your journey towards ultra marathoning! Click here to continue reading on the Kedah 50km vs Vermont 50km Reviews.

Races Review: SHAPE Run vs GE Women’s Run

Last year, a series of women’s only races started appearing in our local running calendar. While our male runners bemoaned races such as SHAPE Run, Great Eastern Women’s Run and the Anlene Orchard Mile, our fellow female runners rejoiced at the new opportunities where the race expo caters specifically to the women’s needs. At the same time, the women won’t need to worry about jostling at the race start with some of the sweaty, inconsiderate, bad manners male runners. Or to worry about what they will be gossiping about their other halves. Here’s what 2 of our runners, Eliza and doraemon_red had to say about both races. Click here to continue reading their reviews of both events and decide for yourself if these are the races for you next year. That’s, if you are a woman.

Up Close & Personal With: Hedgehog

For those who take public transport, if you are observant enough, you’ll notice a familiar face from SGRunners while taking the escalators down to the platforms of City Hall or Orchard MRT stations. Yes, although not being the main poster boy for the Adidas / Standard Chartered Marathon poster, you can’t help but noticed his infectious smile at one corner of the poster, or over someone’s shoulder. And I guess not many will be as lucky as me to have a one-on-one date to talk about his love for sports and his dreams.

To find out more about Hedgehog, who just completed his 1st Half Ironman in Sep 07, Singapore with a respectable timing of 5 hours and 45 minutes, click here to read in another exclusive interview, brought to you by SGRunners. Who knows, you may be able to pick up some tips from his training regime.
